MALUNGON, Sarangani – Local folks, some of which were then a victim to various illnesses cause by unclean natural water facilities, are now enjoying a much better life on tap of a potable water supply that the Department of the Interior and Local Government recently installed in Malungon, Sarangani.

Flor Limpin Jr., DILG director for Sarangani, in a recently held ocular inspection at a DILG - initiated water supply project in Brgy. Lutay, one of Malungon town’s remote villages that lay along the Sarangani-Davao Del Sur border, said the ‘Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig sa Lahat’ or SANTUBIG project was stressed following a series of water source confirmation and site validation conducted by government Engineers Rodrigo Palec of the MEO, Herminia Ontoy and Richard Cruz in different upland villages of the said town.

“Next to Lutay will be the formal opening of water supplies in Barangay Kinam and Poblacion, all of nearby Malapatan town. This project was designed to provide water supply systems for 455 waterless municipalities, barangays, health centers, and resettlement sites, nationwide. Salintubig is a program entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) by the DILG with DOH and NAPC in 2010, but was later transferred to DILG in late 2012,” Limpin said.

He said for CY 2013, the national government allotted a total of seventeen million, four hundred eighty thousand (17,480,000.00) for the Province of Sarangani alone.

“It is in line with the government’s desire to install, expand and or rehabilitate water system projects in so-called arid areas. This is an offshoot to the DILG, Department of Health and concerned LGU officials' two-day congregation that was conducted on February  15-16," Limpin said.

He also added that all the leading government agencies have also agreed to sought the assistance of government-paid  sanitary and civil engineers to hasten the implementation of the project.

Limpin was accompanied by AA IV Sheryl Lantingan, Salintubig Provincial Focal person, during the conduct of actual inspection on April 17, 2013.

He said all of concerned local government units that are interested to avail the 'Salintubig' program are oblige to comply with the DILG’s full disclosure policy.

Submitted studies should be backed by a well-detailed engineering design, sustainability plan, memorandum of agreement and a sangunian resolution, Limpin added.

Meanwhile, Mayor Reynaldo F. Constantino have thanked the DILG of its support and recognition to the local government’s achievement in promoting good governance.

Signed by no less the late DILG Jessie Robredo himself, the ‘Seal of good housekeeping' award was enclosed with a P2-milion prize money that was as well tuned over by Constantino to the Municipal Women’s Council.

“The reward will be distributed to over 5, 000 members of the MWC to avail a micro-financing business. Somehow, this would able to assist their respective husband's earnings, and mold a better life to the offspring,” said Constantino, who is now vying for his third and final term as municipal mayor in the forthcoming May 13 elections.
