MALUNGON, Sarangani – A huge crowd of thousands have join since early afternoon until past midnight, the Sunday (March 31, 2013) opening salvo of People’s Champ Movement here in this municipality, which is considered by many as Rep. Manny Pacquiao’s political bailiwick in Sarangani.

Political pundits said the convergence was the largest-ever attended political rally in town, wherein tribal leaders, barangay captains, Sangguniang Kabataan federation leaders, pastoral groups, various non-government organizations, and women leaders took part in giving their declaration of support to the Constantino and Pacquiao-led administration, on stage.

Talus Brgy. Capt. Joey Espinosa, whose family was then a long-time political foe to the Constantinos, said her mother, former vice mayor Primitiva Espinosa has finally decided to support the Constantino administration due of ‘good leadership’ that brought beneficial changes to the lives of the locals, especially the tribal communities that dwell the remote villages of the municipality.

“That is why we decided to take the  opportunity when our sister Nene, was offered by Mayor Constantino to run under the banner of the PCM political party because of the exemplary leadership that he (Constantino) have shown to us,” the barangay captain said in a vernacular.

Aside from endorsing his local and provincial partymates, Rep. Pacquiao have also sought the support of Malungonians for the candidacy of his wife Jinkee, who is vying for a vice gubernatorial post in Sarangani.

“I am assuring everybody that everyone here under my slate are capable of serving you (Malungonians) with fair, clean and truthful governance,” Pacquiao said before a vast cheering crowd.

Malungon town Mayor Reynaldo F. Constantino has also assured constituents of a more secured, progressive and well-developed Malungon before his last term of office ends by 2016.

“If you permit, I will be having 1, 045 days more to serve you with utmost sincerity in the upcoming three more years of my final term. And that I am assuring everybody that all of my visions and ongoing projects will be served best for the good of my beloved people here in Malungon town,” Constantino added.

Formerly known as a “haven of cattle rustlers and an asylum for lawless groups,” Constantino has made excellent performance in restoring peace in the municipality, which have made Malungon a leader of progress in the entire province of Sarangani today.

With Constantino in the local slate are administration candidates Jessie Dela Curz (for vice mayor), and Sangguniang Bayan members Joseph Calanao, Benjamin Guilley, Mariano Escalada, Benjamin Santos, Edelberto Yuzon, Mario Tan, Nene Espinosa-Santos and Mark Henson Villareal.
