-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(With reports from Malungon Information Office).
Army Reserve Command center looms in Malungon
Defense Center – Mayor Reynaldo F. Constantino (standing right) gives instructions to Municipal Planning and Development Officer Nonito Nunez to facilitate the creation of AFP- Reserve Command Center in Malungon town as 2nd Lt. Mervin Rosal, exec-officer of the 1205th, 12RCDC reserve command (2nd-L) and S/Sgt. Jose Noe Lozada attentively listen during a recent visit of ARESCOM officers with the mayor. (JoJo Gocotano- MALUNGON INFORMATION OFFICE/ ippalma).
MALUNGON, Sarangani – LOCAL government officials here are setting up a center for Army Reserve Command (ARESCOM) which will be conducting training on disaster, rescue and relief operations among barangay officials and selected participants.
Municipal Planning and Development Officer Nonito Nunez said local and provincial officials lead by boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny D. Pacquiao, who is himself an Army Sergeant Major reservist, will officially grace the inauguration of the first Sarangani-based Arescom center at the municipal gymnasium here early next month.
He said they are just awaiting instructions from Mayor Reynaldo “Bong” Constantino as to the final arrangement of the activity.
“The honorable mayor had already expressed his full support for the creation of the Arescom unit in town,” said Nunez, who was tasked by Mayor Reynaldo F. Constantino to oversee the project.
He said the establishment of the Army reservist center here came after the local government and the 1205th Community Defense Center, ARESCOM, are set to conduct training for Army reservist recruits who will be tasked to carry out disaster, rescue and relief operations in the event of calamities in the locality.
The Army Reserve Command, which is currently composed of 10 infantry standby divisions and 14 regional community-based defense groups in the country, plays a major support command to the Armed Forces.
Constantino said the presence of the Army’s 1002nd brigade under the command of Col. Glorioso Miranda and the establishment of the ARESCOM center in town will serve as a strong deterrence against the intrusion of lawless groups into the locality and also compliment the various medical outreach that would benefit the poor Sarangans.
“The establishment of military forces in our municipality is an assurance of peace and prosperity for us Malungonians. So there’s no reason on my part to refuse the recruitment of Army reservists from our locality in a bid to defend my people, especially those who live from the far flung villages,” Constantino said.
Malungon, a landlocked town that lies at the northwestern part of Sarangani, is predominantly occupied by tribal people belonging to the B’laan and the Taga-Kaulo tribes.
Officials said the establishment of ARESCOM will be stretched throughout the entire province of Sarangani, specifically at the MAKIMA Area (Maasim, Kiamba and Maitum) where fierce fighting between the AFP and rogue Moro Islamic Liberation Front combatants have claimed several lives and million-worth of properties in 2009.
Army 2nd Lt. Mervin Rosal, exec-officer of the 1205th, 12RCDC reserve command based in Brgy. Buayan, Asinan, Gen. Santos City said the trainees who will undergo a 30 day training shall be enlisted into the Reserve Force of the Philippine Army and be assigned to the Disaster Emergency Assistance Relief and Rescue Operation Unit which will be stationed in the municipality.
Rosal said the training will be conducted on Saturdays and Sundays, including 11 days on basic military training, 12.5 days on environment protection and 6.2-days on Disaster Emergency Assistance Relief and Rescue Operations.
Everybody is welcome, provided that the trainees must be residence of the municipality. The approval of their application will be screened by the local government and 1205th CDC, ARESCOM. A minimum of 125 trainees will be accepted for each batch, and that applicants must be Filipino citizen, physically and mentally fit for military training; at least elementary graduate; non-reservist; and at last 18 years above or not more than 45 years old.
Nunez said all barangay captains of the 31 barangays of Malungon will be attending a final briefing called for by Arescom before the first bach of training will start on June 4.
Rosal said under the Officer Preparatory Course, college graduates are trained to take roles as officers in Philippine Army while undergrads will be trained for the infantry, rescue and other related operations.
There are two types of reservists in the component of the AFP Reserve Force: the Ready Reserve and Standby Reserve. Ready Reservists are personnel that are always on constant alert and on a call whenever the mobilization order has been given, while Standby Reservists are the personnel that support and augment the Ready Reserve Force when only needed.

Manny Pacquiao, Sarangani Gov. Miguel Dominguez, Malungon Mayor Bong Constantino (standing), Malapatan Mayor Alfredo Singcoy and Alabel town Mayor Corazon GRafilo. Also standing (far right) is Pacman’s legal officer, Atty. Jeng Gacal Jr. (JoJo Gocotano-MALUNGON INFORMATION OFFICE/ Ippalma).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pacquiao so there is no much question about that or on how much he could knock out the honorable Rep. Lagman who authored the controversial RH bill.
Dominguez at Rep. Pacquiao.

Peacemaker – World’s eight (8) boxing division champ and Sarangani Rep. Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao again proven his worth not only as pound-for-pound king but as ambassador of peace as well, as he reunites former president Joseph “Erap” Estrada and governor Chavit Singson (former buddy-turned-political arch-rival) during the recent 62nd birthday celebration of Pacquiao’s mom Dionesia held at the Pacquiao-owned gymnasium in Gen. Santos City. (JoJo Gocotano-MALUNGON INFORMATION OFFICE/ isagani palma).
Pacman, darating sa Sarangani Bay Fest ngayon!
Cheerful Sarangans – Matamang kinumperma ni world eight (8) division boxing champ at Sarangani Rep. Pacquiao, Chavit Singson, at Gov.
“Everything are set for this great celebration including our security and health care providers kaya wala tayong dapat na ikabahala lalo na doon sa mga makikiisa’t makikisaya sa ating bay festival. And besides, noon pa naman ay talaga namang napatunayan na natin na lagi itong nagtatapos sa kasayahan with no other untoward incident na nangyayare even during and after the event,” ani Dominguez.

Miguel A. Dominguez.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Top local government and police officials solemnized Saturday, the induction of officers and members of newly formed Journalists Action Motor Group (JAMG) at the Tierra Montana Hotel here in the city.
Attended by at least 80 journalist-bikers from the neighboring cities and provinces in Central Mindanao, JAMG organizers said the group was formed in a bid to establish closer union and coordination with motor-riding media practitioners, specifically those who are traveling around to cover various news-worthy events in Region-12.
“I believe that journalist-bikers could always gather more information although it would likewise mean additional risk especially in traveling the long way Gen. Santos to Cotabato City route. In organizing this group, JAMG members could able to reach-out for help from fellow reporters during break down or any emergency cases while on their way to cover for any event,” Ronald “Boboy” Mascardo, JAMG chairman and publisher of weekly tabloid Dadiangas Balita, said.
The occasion was graced by no less Mayor Reynaldo F. Constantino of Malungon, Sarangani, City Councilor Virgie Llido ( vice Gensan Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio), P/Sr. Supt. Willie Dangane, the Directorate for Integrated Police Operations (DIPO) chief for Western-Mindanao and MAKIMA area (Maasim-Kiamba and Mitum,) disegntaed deputy governor JoJo Lopez Jr., who represented Sarangani Gov. Miguel Alcantara-Dominguez.
Rolly Fabrigar, the JAMG vice chair and publisher of city-based Sultanate News said the group, which is made up of veteran media consultants, is also eying to launch various civic activities to broaden up association with the common tao that are living at far flung villages of the SOCSKSARGEN (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and Gen. Santos City) growth areas.
Observers said most fourth estate members in this side of the country had been forming different organizations to unify themselves against various political harassments and aggressions that had claimed dozens of reporters lives in the past years.
Reports said among the considered most brutal killing of some 30 journalists in the world’s most horrible 52-man massacre has taken place at a remote town in Maguindanao Province here on November 23, 2009.
Meanwhile Constantino also reminded media friends to always abide with the ethical standard of journalism, as he assured transparent and media-friendly ties in his administration.
“As watchdogs of our society ay gagawin ko ang lahat para patuloy po ninyong maipagmamalaki na naging kaibigan nyo si Constantino, as I vow to continuously serve my people in Malungon with honesty, dedication and integrity. Thus as being a friend, I am assuring each and everyone na kailan man ay hindi po ninyo ikakahiya na naging kaibigan ninyo ako dito sa Sarangani Province,” Constantino said.
Mascardo and Fabrigar said Constantino’s presence, despite the latter’s delayed arrival from attending some important matters with his children in Davao City, has even made the party merrier that evening.
“Dangane, who is a known media friend since his time as police provincial director of Sarangani, police director for General Santos and Cotabato City, and as the current DIPO-WM police chief, has also assured unfading support to press freedom,” Mascardo said.
Aside from Mascardo and Fabrigar who were both appointed chairman and vice-chairman by the board, other newly installed JAMG board of directors was Jeb Galindez of SAPOL News Bulletin, Richard Basilio of Punto News, Hilarion Brotarlo of Dadiangas Times and Manuel “toto’ Mina of RPN-9.
