MALUNGON, Sarangani – The local government here, in collaboration with municipal health officials and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation have started the distribution of Philhealth cards to senior citizen-beneficiaries since late last week, a reliable source said.
MHO head Dr. Rafaida Garay-Hernandez said aside from the earlier distributed 8, 942 Philhealth cards to indigent families who are on top of President Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), the local government headed by Mayor Reynaldo ‘Bong’ Constantino have already commenced the distribution of Philhealth cards to senior citizens who are found to be fittingly qualified to the said health insurance program of the government.
“Actually the distribution of Philhealth cards to senior citizens have already started during our November 13 health profiling, master listing and consultation activity that was attended by over 3, 000 elders,” Hernandez said in a brief huddle with newsmen.
She said the ceremonial distribution was officially opened by Philhealth representatives and Constantino, together with Jinky Pacquiao who came in behalf of the congressman, before the presence of elders who participated the lately held  activity of the MHO dubbed as “Kalusugang Pangkalahatan: Lolo at Lola ... Pangalagaan” at the municipal gymnasium, here.
Speaking in behalf of Pacquiao, Jinky reportedly said the Congressman have also assured to assist the funding of Philhealth cards to senior citizens who are usually caught by sickness due to old age.
“I am certain that our beloved Congressman is always very willing to enclose you with such kind of benefits dahil alam ko na talagang kailangan nyo po ito,” said Jinky in a vernacular, as she then lead the distribution of  complimentary Pacman bags, umbrellas and t-shirts to the delightful elders.
In his speech, Constantino said aside from making Malungon a leader of development in Sarangani, he is doing his best for the stabilization of health, education and other priority projects of the government in a bid to uplift the living condition of his people before his term of office ends in 2013.
“Despite of all my shortcomings in the younger years, I am certain that I have done my best in uplifting our town into what it is today. Once again, as I extend my most humble apology to you my beloved elders, I would like to assure everyone (parents) of a firmer, capable and trustworthy kind of governance ... even beyond the scheduled midterm May elections,” Constantino added.
