Maln'gan women to adopt stink-free piggeries

MALUNGON, Sarangani – The local government here, in its noble desire to assist women by providing various micro-financed projects and support, again initiated a whole day tour study on how to farm hogs in an odor-free backyard system. 

Mayor Reynaldo F. Constantino’s better half Roselyn, the local nutrition (volunteer) officer and Municipal Council of Women (MCW) honorary chairperson, said the Wednesday (February 18) educational tour in FeedPro’s “Baboyang Walang Amoy” information and natural piggery farm demo center at Riverside Village, Silway 8, Polomolok, South Cotabato, was participated by top officials of the 79 different women’s organizations that comprise the local MCW chapter which is now participated by more or less 5, 000 members of the Women's In Development of Sarangani (WINDS) organization in Malungon, Sarangani Province. 

“This LGU-provided tour was stress in line with our noble aim to equip local women with various knowledge in odorless backyard hog raising, by the use of plant based materials such corn, soybeans, Mongo, copra and other natural feeds. In some way they will be ascertain on how to raise hogs in an easy to manage and odor free piggery through the Profitable Innovative Growing System or PIGS. This is a method of producing hogs in an environment that mimics their natural habitat, “ stressed the lady Constantino, adding that through this natural hog raising technology, small players are assured with less capital business that could raise a much safer and healthier meat in a very sustainable and eco-friendly way.

She said the activity as part of the month-long celebration of Women’s Month, will be re-echoed to its members during the commemoration’s culmination day on March 24 at the municipal gymnasium of the said municipality. 

Aside of piggery visit, Constantino said included in the event is the presentation and update reporting on all projects and LGU financing programs that were given to women under the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), Rural Improvement Club with the Department of Agriculture as its focal person, and the Barangay Nutrition Staffs, under the direct supervision of the MNC, in the year 2014. 

Reports said the continuous flow of support from the Costantino-led administration has able to assist women, not only of their families daily need on food consumption but likewise in sending their beloved broods to school.

Among other supports that the local administration have had stressed to women since Mayor Reynaldo F. Constantino's assumption into office in 2007 include the release of P4.5 million-worth micro finance projects, SMI-supported millions-worth support programs, and the prestigious monetary award that Malungon town achieved as being a consistent holder of the DILG’s prestigious Seal of Good Housekeeping in the past years.
