Upland sprint champ to take chance in Palarong Pambansa '14

A SRAA track and field gold medalist in the 5, 000-meter run category, Tumandar also bagged a silver (2nd placer) in the 3, 000 m race, and bronze winner (third placer) in the 1, 500-m run competition also of the said event. The 'upland' runner is the town's official entry in the schduled May 2014 Palarong Pambansa sports meet in Sta. Cruz, Laguna. MALUNGON, Sarangani – After bagging home the track and field's gold, silver and bronze in the recently held South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City (SOCCSKSARGEN) Regional Athletic Association (SRAA) Meet, the upland town's pride Ryan T. Tumanda now gears for a much bigger win in the upcoming May 2014 Palarong Pambansa in Sta. Cruz, Laguna. 

Mayor Reynaldo ‘Bong’ Constantino, said as a champion (Gold medalist) in the SRAA track and field 5, 000-meter run, Tumanda will be well-supported by the local government in his quest to victory in the forthcoming Palarong Pambansa sports competition. 

Aside from Gold, Tumanda also bagged a Silver (2nd placer) in the 3,000 mtr run, and was named third placer (Bronze) in the 1, 500-meter challenge during the February 11-15 regional athletic meet that was held at the South Cotabato Sports Complex in Koronadal City. 

“We (Malungonians) hope and pray to see you, not necessarily as a victor, but still in your best shape after this bigger and larger event. So play hard and - take care,” Constantino told Tumanda amid the latter's Monday (March 3) visit at the municipal hall.

On March 14, this fourth year high school 'upland' runner from Brgy. San Roque, will undergo a 40-day rigid training in Koronadal, South Cotabato. 

He will be among the expected 17, 000 athletes, coaches and officials from all 17 participating regions in the seven-day 19 sports activities and 399 athletic sports dare.
Gov. Emilio Ramon 'ER' Ejercito Jr., said the athletic meet is a nation’s premier sporting event. He said the event will be the first one to be held since the recent approval of the Palarong Pambansa institunalization Law, otherwise known as Republic Act 10588.

Ejercito said all ground works in the nine-hectare Sta. Cruz Sports Complex are likewise set and done, including the rehabilitation of the more or less 60 surrounding schools that will be utilized as athletes billeting centers during the meet. (Isagani P. Palma – MALUNGON INFORMATION OFFICE).
