GENERAL SANTOS CITY – A
number of 21 local and Sultan Kudarat-based media practitioners took oath as
new members of the Journalists Action Motor Group during the recently held JAMG
1st anniversary celebration in Tierra Montana Hotel, here.
The induction, officiated by no less Sarangani League
of Mayors in the Municipalities (LMP) president and Malungon town Mayor
Reynaldo ‘Bong’ Constantino, was also solemnized by former Sultan Kudarat
representative and governor Sultan Pax Mangudadatu and P/ Chief Supt. Alex Paul
Monteagudo, police director for Central Mindanao before the presence of over a
hundred JAMG members from all over Region 12.
In a message, Constantino, who is a distinguished fourth
estate advocate in the nearby province of Sarangani, have urged media friends
to continuously unite and strengthen the cannons of the profession through fair
and honest news reporting, in such manner to maintain the dignity of the
profession.
“I
will always be a friend and supporter to press freedom, and at the same time, a
big brother to remind you of your actions in a bid to maintain the dignity of
the profession,” said Constantino, in a plea for the press not to take unfair advantage
against their fellow ‘working’ journalists.
“The art of reconciliation,
understanding and firm union among you journalists is among God’s greatest gift
that will always protect you from harm, specifically while conducting your tour
of duty on the field,” Constantino, in a huddle with newsmen, said.
Mangudadatu, who is said to be vying for a congressional
post in the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) in the forthcoming
2013 elections, likewise stress his message of support to the media profession.
In impromptu, Police Gen. Monteagudo also assured
the press of ample police protection against the enemies of press freedom.
JAMG chairman Ronald Mascardo said the organization of
motor-riding reporters covering Sarangani-General Santos and Cotabato
City was established in an aim to fortify accurate access and camaraderie among press travelers,
specifically to those who frequently trips the country’s most dangerous zones.
“Kabalo man ambi ta kung ano kadelikado para sa aton
ang mag byahe. Gani mas maayo gid nga may yara kita sang sarili nga
organisasyon para makabulig sa tanan bisan na lang sa panahon nga kita ma
break-down sa dalan, o yara sa indi maayo nga sitwasyon. Kay ang aton baya nga rota
nasulod sa lugar kung diin sobra 30 ka mga kaupod ta nga mga media ang ginpang
patay sadtong mga nagligad lang nga katuigan,” said Mascardo in a vernacular.
